“I don't like to show my legs”
If you are a woman, you have most likely either have said that statement yourself or, at the very least, have had another woman state it to you. For the women who don't enjoy showing off their legs, the summer season can be filled with anxiety over having to bare any skin that is below the waist. Kinda puts a damper on going to the pool or the beach, huh? Don't fret, there are a few things you can do to up your confidence level and have you feeling happy (or at least not unhappy) about gloating your gams for the world to see this summer, and all without the aid of diet or exercise!
Get a close shave
Do not immediately start prepping your legs for shaving when you start your shower. Wait 5 minutes to let the skin on your legs absorb some of the water, this will plump the skin and make shaving much easier. Apply your shaving cream, and again let it sit on your skin for a few minutes to soften the hairs. When you shave, go slow and rinse the razor often, making sure there is no residue or hair left on it. When doing knees and ankles, apply light pressure and take short strokes to avoid niks. Rinse your legs thoroughly and wash with a gentle body wash. It is important to follow up with lotion soon after getting out of the shower so your skin does not dry out.
Moisturize
Finding the perfect moisturizer is imperative for sexy legs. A good moisturizer can do numerous things to keep your legs looking gorgeous. Not only will it relieve dry or ashy skin, it can also help prevent ingrown hairs, stretch mark, and keep tans ,real or fake, from fading. If you have sensitive skin, look for one that is fragrance free. A lotion that contains the ingredient glycerin will help provide moisture by drawing in moisture from the air and will provide a silkier feel to the lotion. Curel and Glysomed are two moisturizers containing glycerin. Always apply lotion after showering or shaving, and any other times your legs are feeling dry.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation will take the softness of your legs to a whole new level. There are two types of exfoliators: chemical and manual. A chemical exfoliator is a lotion or treatment which contains ingredients that encourage cell turnover. It is important to note that chemical exfoliators make skin much more sensitive to sunlight and can cause photodamage if you do not wear sunscreen. They may also be irritating to those with sensitive skin. Manual exfoliators are exfoliators that physically remove the dry skin, such as loofahs or scrubs. St. Ives Apricot Scrub is perhaps the most popular scrub and is very effective. Another favorite manual exfoliator is to get a good pair of shower scrubby gloves and use them with a moisturizing body wash in the shower. Exfoliation will not only make your legs feel silky smooth, it will also aid in the prevention of ingrown hairs.
Fake a Tan
Most women have tried self-tanners, and most women have at least one horror story about using self tanner. Either it was streaky or blotchy, turned orange, or looked as if they had lizard skin once the tan started to fade. I myself am what you may call ghostly pale, and never thought that achieving a natural fake tan was possible. That was until the birth of gradual tanners. These tanners are a lotion with a very low level of the staining ingredient found in regular self tanners. Apply it just like a lotion, being careful to apply it everywhere and semi-even. Let it dry anywhere from 5-10 minutes and you're done. It may take a few days to see any skin color changes; however, when it does begin, it will be a light brown stain and not a bright orange disaster. From there you can build up to the color you desire. The biggest advantage of a gradual tanner is that it is nearly foolproof; most mistakes made in application will not show. You will still need to take some precaution with your hands and feet. Just apply the gradual tanner, wait a minute, then apply a layer of lotion over your hands and feet. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after application to prevent orange palms and nails. Tan legs look slimmer than their paler counterparts, plus the tanner diminishes minor imperfections on the skin, making it much more even toned.
